LILLY, Bertha Martin, 91, of Sandston, Virginia, retired executive vice-president of Providence Forge Oil Company, Inc., passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Mrs. Lilly was born in Osborne, South Carolina, the daughter of the late George Dowling Martin and Mary Hill Martin. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty-four years, James David Lilly, and her older brother James Thomas Martin of Charleston, SC. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Martin Lilly and Patricia Compton Lilly of Sandston, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Lilly Hite and Christopher Joseph
Hite of West Point, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James David Lilly, Jr. and Connie Moore Lilly of Richmond, VA; two grandsons, Nathaniel Compton Lilly (Janell Wendel Lilly) of Powhatan, VA, and Justin Michael Lilly (Viviane Oliveira Lilly) of Sandston, Va; two granddaughters, Michelle Renee Hite of Richmond, VA and Danielle Marie Lilly of Arlington, VA; four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Camden, Jordynn, and Jaxon Lilly of Powhatan, VA and a future great-grandson due in March 2019. Mrs. Lilly was an active member of Corinth United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Board for many years and was elected Member Emeritus. She also chaired and served on other various committees. In 1970, she and her husband purchased Providence Forge Oil Company, Inc., a petroleum and propane gas business in Providence Forge, Virginia. She was the executive vice-president, secretary, and credit manager of the company until late 1989, when they sold the business and retired. In 1968, in recognition of her faithful service, her peers in the Forest Heights Garden Club bestowed a Life Membership in the Richmond Council of Garden Clubs on Mrs. Lilly. Funeral Services will be held at Corinth United Methodist Church, 23 Williamsburg Road, Sandston, VA at 12 pm on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018, with visitation an hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Corinth United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
