

COCHRAN, Betty J., 75, was born January 26, 1942 in Lancaster PA. She went home to her Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl C “Jim” Cochran, Jr., she is survived by children: Rob Petres (Lea), Frances Adams (Mark), Suzanne Stricker (Kurt), Randy Petres (Mary), Bill Cochran (Debbie) and Katy Wilde (David); grandchildren: Nathan Adams, Rachel Adams, Sydney Stricker, Michael Stricker, Rowan Petres and Madelyn Grace Cochran. Betty graduated as a Blockley Nurse from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and later earned a Bachelor's degree in General Studies/Business from VCU. She had a long career in nursing and Nurse Administration. Betty was dedicated to serving others, giving countless hours to her church, the Sheltering Arms Club Rec program, and Va. Lutheran Homes. Through Waters of Siloam medical mission trips, she served Haitians working the sugar cane fields in the Dominican Republic. She was a 40 year volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. In retirement, Betty loved sewing and teaching classes at the Ultimate Sewing Place, All Brands Sew and Jo-Ann Fabrics. She loved her grandchildren dearly and spent time teaching them to sew, cheering them on at sporting events, and exploring the outdoors. The family will receive friends Friday, March 10, 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 13 2pm at First English Lutheran Church, 1603 Monument Avenue, Richmond. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Virginia Council Boy Scouts of America. P.O.
