Charles Mitchell Mumpower

He was a graduate of Lloyd C. Bird High School, class of 2008. Mitchell later studied computer science at ECPI in Richmond, Virginia and entered the IT world maintaining computers, websites, and performing website design for miscellaneous customers. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family as well as taking care of “his girls”, Vita and Coco, his beloved dogs.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Layton Mumpower; brother, Joshua Logan Mumpower; grandmother, Burleane P. Mumpower; grandfathers, Robert J. Layton and Charles W. Mumpower. Mitchell is survived by his father, Charles Craig Mumpower (Artimus Drysdale) of Hinton, WV; grandmother, Phyllis M. Layton of Highland Springs, VA; aunt, Susan Layton of New Kent, VA; uncles, Wayne Layton (Donna) of Richmond, VA, Donald Layton of Highland Springs, VA, Stephen Layton (Jennifer) of Goochland, VA, and Brian Layton (Jeanine) of New Kent, VA; niece, Madelynn Mae Clarke-Mumpower of Prince George, VA; a close friend, Susan Smith of Chesterfield, VA; and a host of cousins and relatives in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Texas.

Mitch loved his friends and family without fault and held a very special place in his heart just for his Mom, whom he loved and cherished with his whole heart. He was a “gentle giant” with a big heart, always there in times of need, offering a lending hand, warm smile, calming laugh, and gentle teddy-bear hugs. And Mitch always tried to assure you “it’ll be ok” and “everything will work out” when facing difficult times himself, as he was strong-willed and never gave up.

Though he is gone from us on this earth, he will forever remain a part of our lives as we carry him forward in our hearts, thoughts, and memories forever.

A Memorial/Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Virginia, where friends and family will be able to speak and celebrate Mitchell’s life. A time of fellowship with family will precede this service for those friends and family wishing to visit before the service, and will be held from 1 p.m. until the service starts.

A graveside funeral service for Mitchell will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Dr., Sandston, VA 23150, with Rev. Harry R. Bowman officiating. Your presence is warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated.
