Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Luther Woodson and Nannie Belle Carter Woodson; his sisters, Bettie Hatcher, Mary Tunstall, Jennie Martin, Mable Dodson, Sally Crews; and his great-grandson, Brayden Eddie Nall.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving, caring, and devoted wife of 68 years, JoAnne Woodson; his daughter, Nancy Nall (Eddie); his son, Billy Woodson (Susan); grandchildren, Megan Yancey (Matthew), Heather Nall (Charlie), Austin Dant (Alli); great-grandchildren, Paxton, Harper, Peyton, Rollins, Reagan, and Charlie; along with his devoted church family from Fort Lee Baptist Church.
Bill’s working life reflected steadiness, skill, and commitment. He worked for Capital Service Garage from 1963 until 1970, then went to UPS as a mechanic from 1970 until 1984. In 1984, he and his wife became owners of Capital Garage, Inc., and together they embraced the towing industry for 40 years before retiring—years marked by perseverance, partnership, and pride in his work.
Bill found joy in the simple, enduring gifts of life: fishing, hunting, spending time with his donkeys, and—above all—being with his family. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and as a devout Christian who deeply loved his church family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 25, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, VA.
In lieu flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated by Fort Lee Baptist Church, 2727 Charles City Road, Henrico, VA 23231.
