Charlotte Barber, 91, entered her Heavenly home peacefully on November 8, 2025. She was born on June 25, 1934, in Salem NJ, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion, and unwavering love for her family.
Charlotte dedicated her life to serving others. She worked as a CNA and private home health aide caring for the elderly, and also spent many years employed at Robert Packer Hospital, ACME, and A&P Supermarkets. Caring for people wasn’t just a job to her—it was her calling.
She was married for 68 years to her true love, Merlin Barber, who preceded her in death in June of 2025. Their love, commitment, and loyalty to one another is something rare and beautiful. Our family finds tremendous comfort knowing Charlotte and Merlin are joyfully reunited again in Heaven. Prior to her marriage to Merlin, Charlotte was married to Irving Scholl, who also preceded her in death. Although that season of her life was short, it remained an important part of her story and family history.
Charlotte is survived by her three loving daughters, Debbie (John) Santulli, Elaine Tappan, and Charlotte (Gary) Robinson; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved beyond measure.
Charlotte had a love for simple joys—card games, board games, and puzzles. She made memories around tables filled with laughter, family competition, and sweet time spent together. These moments were some of our most cherished with her—warm, lighthearted, and full of connection.
Charlotte had a deep and unwavering faith and love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived her life as a woman of prayer, trust, humility, and quiet faithfulness. Her legacy is one of strength, devotion, and steadfast belief in God’s promises. She taught us all—through her words and through her example—what faith lived out daily truly looks like.
Her family will forever cherish her wisdom, her laughter, her gentle spirit, and the immeasurable impact she made on each of our lives.
Her love was a gift. Her faith was her foundation. And because of that—we carry peace knowing she is home with the Lord and reunited with the love of her life.
A Celebration of Charlotte's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231.
