Constance Hornberger Schmidt

Constance “Jean” Schmidt was born June 2, 1939 in Richmond, VA to William Hornberger and Lucille Hornberger. She was an only child and resided in Chesterfield County, VA. She passed away to be with her lord and family on May 29th, 2026.

Jean was married to Leroy Schmidt for 62 years, who passed away in March of 2020. Jean and Leroy were the father of three children, Beverly, Stephen and Peter. They also had three grandchildren, Erin, Tom and Jonathan as well as a great grandchild Justin. She was a home maker and provided for the daily needs of her husband and children as they grew up. She attended all school events, sporting events and gave her children a solid moral foundation to grow upon as they graduated school and after as they grew into adulthood.

After the children moved out into the world, she enjoyed taking vacations with Leroy to various locations throughout Europe, Mexico and various tropical islands. They both cherished these vacation memories and have left behind pictures of the locations and time they spent together in which you can see the happiness and closeness they shared in their relationship.

Her main hobby throughout life were gardening and lawncare. She enjoyed making things grow and making her yard beautiful for others to enjoy.

Jean and Lee also had various dogs throughout the year that she spoiled as her “babies”

In her latter years, she enjoyed taking walks and becoming friends with the residents in her apartment complex. She also enjoyed the community and friendships that she made at Ironbridge Church in Chesterfield.

She was very involved in her relationship with Jesus and God and will have a Celebration of Life at IronBridge Church in Chesterfield located on IronBridge Road, June 15th at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, she would have donations made to Air and Space Forces Aid Society who offers assistance to Airmen and Guardians of the Air Force, in which her husband Leroy served. More information can be found at https://afas.org/donate/
