To all who loved Darlene:
Darlene was my next door neighbor as a teenager.  She was also an excellent seamstress and adjusted my prom gown to fit me-a loving gesture I have never forgotten.  She fought a good fight but now she can rest. 
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. "Trust in God;trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms;if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you".  John 14:1-2



I remember Darlene as an excellent performer at exercise class. She challenged me.
But most of all, I respected her courage as she fought her disease. She never was able to quite get ride of it, entirely, though.  It won in the end....

Having known and worked with Darlene for many, many years, I am shocked and saddened to learn of her death.  She was a great friend and truly a free spirited "spit fire".  She will be missed and remembered by many.

This is very sad news. Darlene and her then husband Phil and I and my wife Martha we're charter members of Richmond HOG and rode many miles together. Darlene and Martha we're very good friends. My wife passed away 12 years ago from complications of MS. Darlene's passing brings back memories with mixed emotions.

To the family and friends of Darlene,

I was shocked to see Darlene's obituary in the paper today.  I had no idea she was sick.

Darlene's parents and my parents were the very best of friends and she came from a wonderful family.  My Father was kin to Nolton Burnett which also makes me her cousin.  I have pictures of Darlene and her family with my family.  I have an Easter picture with Darlene and I sitting in the same chair all dressed up.

Again, I feel very bad she has passed away but she is at rest with her parents now.  I am sorry to all of those who will miss her.

My heart is heavy as I remember my dear friend Darlene.  She loved to tell the story that "she put me on the payroll" when I joined Vepco (now Dominion Energy VA) in 1967.  She worked for the manager of the department I joined.  We became very good friends throughout our working careers and continued to keep in touch after our retirement.  Rest in paradise Darlene!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nolton C. and Ruby Lane Burnett; and is survived by her significant other, John Barker; daughters, Angela Barker and Pamela Wright (Jerry); her beloved pet dog, Eve; and many special friends, including two that she loved like sisters, Pat Clements and Terry Phillips.
