

Douglas I. “Doug” Stanley, 89, of Sandston passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was employed as a conductor with CSX for 40 years. Doug was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and he was a veteran of WWII, serving his country honorably as a Navy Seabee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 6936 and the American Legion Post #144, located in Highland Springs. Doug is preceded in death by his son, Michael Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edna Stanley; children, Stephen Stanley (Cindy) and Patrick Stanley; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Stanley (Paige), Brian Stanley, Daniel Stanley, Josh Stanley, Amanda Stanley, Ross Stanley, and Blake Stanley; and 2 great-grandchildren, Hunter Stanley and Chase Stanley. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231 on Wednesday, May 10 from 5-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 11 at St. John’s Catholic Church, located at 811 W. Nine Mile Road, Henrico, VA 23075. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
