George "Pop" William Shumaker

On this day of April 30, 2014, the choirs of heaven made a joyful noise at 3:30 a.m. as George W. Shumaker, known as Pop, was welcomed into his Heavenly Father’s arms. His sweetie pie, Carolyn, and George are now swinging on the pearly gates of Heaven, along with their great grandson, Kevin James. George loved sitting on his front porch and waving to all his neighbors as they drove by. He loved to plant a garden and share with friends. Pop’s dog, Lucky, was a great companion. His love and memories will be cherished by his daughter, Marion (Boo); and son-in-law, Ralph MacKenzie; sons, George G. and James Arthur Shumaker. Pop has six grandchildren, George West (wife, Nancy), Sargeant James MacKenzie, USMC (wife, Annie), Nurse Becky Lee, Amy Marie (husband, Jeremy Adams), Ashley Marie (husband, Aaron Longoria) and Brittany Shumaker. Pop has five great grandchildren who had a special place in his heart, Hayden, Alexis, Ian MacKenzie, Ryan Longoria, and his little peacock, Erianna Adams. George is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth and brother-in-law, Robert Moss and Edna Moss. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2-6pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4560 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond VA 23231. Funeral services will be Monday, May 5, 2014, 1pm, at Landmark Baptist Church, 4000 Creighton Road, Richmond VA 23223. George will be laid to rest at Signal Hill Cemetery, Hanover VA.
