

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Allen Justice; father, Claude Swanson Brewer; mother, Una Lee Hanks Brewer; and sister, Nancy Lee Brewer Hendrix.
She was a File Clerk for the Internal Revenue Service and was a member of the Deaf Mission Church and Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church. Helen graduated from the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, VA, and attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. She was dedicated to the empowerment and enrichment of the Richmond area deaf community, as well as supporting her husband with his church work. She was a member of the Virginia Association for the Deaf; Virginia Baptist Convention for the Deaf; Southern Baptist Convention for the Deaf; Virginia School for the Deaf Alumni Association; and Deaf Seniors of America. In 1992 she was named Deaf Mother of the Year by the Virginia Association for the Deaf.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri Mulvin (Tom) and Sara Durrett (Jeff); Four grandchildren, Kayley Durrett, Rachel Mulvin Jones (Justin), Zachary Durrett, and Andrew Mulvin (Nicole); two brothers, Claude Swanson Brewer, Jr. (Marion) and Ted Stanley Brewer; and one sister Martha Jean Brewer Chrisman (Gary); niece, Sarah Walrath (Seth); and nephews, Carl Hendrix and Eric Chrisman (Sarah), as well as great nieces Joy, Elsa, Taylor and Avery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 19 from 1pm until service time at 1:30 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA. 23231.
Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Deaf Mission, First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Ave, Richmond, VA., 23220.
Helen was well loved and will be sorely missed.
