

Henry “Hank” M. Rose, 78, of Sandston, passed away on May 15, 2014. Born on November 12, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Eleanor and Edward Rose, Hank moved to Virginia at age 4. He grew up in Sandston where he met Eleanor Winn, his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years. He attended Sandston Elementary, Highland Springs High School, VMI and RPI. He served 6 years in the Army where he performed with the Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Lee Army Bands and retired after 20 years from Virginia Dominion Power. Among his many talents, he was a computer data analyst, skilled carpenter, mechanic, handyman, gardener, and a musician of every brass instrument, mainly trumpet. He performed with the European Wind Ensemble, Elbas Musikanten, BoxCar Brass, Richmond Concert Band and Henrico Community Band. He was a member of the National Trumpet Guild and Founders Club of Sandston. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved family gatherings and a houseful of children and their many friends. He will be missed for his witty sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Winn Rose and daughters Ellen Walker (Carl) and Betsy O’Brien (Jim); his brothers, Bill Rose (Pat) and Tom Rose (Kathy); grandchildren, Steve Walker, Doug Walker (Jannette), Kate Justice (Derek), Sean Henry O’Brien and Scott O’Brien; great grandchildren, Hayden Fox, Kaia Justice, and Jason Justice. Visitation will take place at Nelsen Funeral Home at 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, on Monday, May 19 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and a memorial service on Tuesday, May 20 at 2pm at Sandston Presbyterian Church.
