FITZGERALD, Herbert Broughton (Jimmy), 72, of Charles City, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home the morning of May 5, 2017. Jimmy was blessed to have had numerous friends and neighbors who watched after him as his health failed. He was a gentle soul with simple tastes who loved nature and animals, but loved nothing more than sitting on his porch in the spring and watching his beloved purple martins while listening to their endless singing. He is survived by his faithful Lab, Hailey; his brother, Robert E. Fitzgerald and his wife, Debra; nephew, Brett Fitzgerald; and niece, Marissa Fitzgerald Barrerra; as well as his aunt, Suzanne Hart of Grants, N.M. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231.
