James Pleasant Farmer, 81, of Sandston passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. He served in the U. S. Army for two years and graduated from cook school as an honor student, which he reminded us daily. He was formerly a corrections officer with the Department of Corrections for 30 years and was a member of Highland Springs Church of the Nazarene. He loved spending time with his grandkids, fishing, gardening and listening to bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley F. and Susie Lawson Farmer; brother, Wesley Junior Farmer; and sister, Charlotte Culbertson. He is survived by his bride of 58 years, Mary Eunice Farmer; children, James Wesley Farmer (Tanya) and Lisa Diana Adkins (Donald); sisters, Virginia Marshall, Sue Asbury (Joe) and Mary Jane Nash; grandchildren, Marie Pearson (William), Angela Belcher (Trey), Wesley Farmer, Scott Farmer, Noah Adkins and Matthew Adkins; great-grandchildren, Layla, Andrea, Camryn and Chloe. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where services will be held Monday, June 24, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
