He was the founder of Jeter’s Carpet & Flooring and was a member of Samis Grotto and
Masonic Lodge # 9.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James R., Sr. and Hazel Jeter; daughter, Kimberly Jeter Mitchell; and sisters, Dorothy Cheatham and Jesse Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Denise Jeter; children, Denise Jeter, Shelby Jeter, Jade Jeter-Hailey (Jessie) and James Jeter III (Carolyn); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Mary Virginia Jeter and Mildred Jeter Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where services will be held Wednesday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
