James Broaddus Norment Jr.

Norment, James Broaddus Jr., age 63, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 27, 2014. Jim is survived by his true love, Celia McKimmey; children, James Broaddus Norment III, Luke Andrew Kathol, Laura Kathol, Leticia Kathol Bergin; brother, Steven Andrews Norment; sister, Nancy Norment Harris; grandchildren, Gavin James Norment, Luke Andrew Kathol Jr., Christopher James Kathol, Jenna Todd, Jordan Todd, Thomas James Bergin, Riley Bergin; nieces, Jennifer Tabitha Norment, Lindsey Claire Norment, Courtney Elizabeth Norment; as well as his faithful companion, Vanilla. Jim dedicated his life to helping humans and animals come to a better understanding of and respect for each other. He taught many children and adults the important lessons of life, while also teaching them to ride and appreciate the majesty of the horse and the hound. Jim was well known for his ability to tell a story, put a smile on your face, and in your heart. His ability to communicate with the animals he loved and trained was a wonder to behold and a testimony to the sensitivity of the man. Now, he rides again. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 1 pm at Salem Baptist Church, 24032 Sparta Road, Sparta VA 22552. Interment is private.
