He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jackson and Dora Lee Wilkins; five brothers and four sisters.
He worked as an auto-mechanic for Centreville Exxon in Goochland. James was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching NASCAR. Kyle Busch and Mark Martin were his favorite drivers. He also enjoyed bowling, tending to his garden, fishing and most of all, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Sandra Owens Wilkins; children, Lisa Wilkins Keaton and Jamie L. Wilkins-Strack; grandchildren, Scotty, Aaron, Kayla, Carly, McKenzie, Rylee, Weldon and Stetson; siblings, Thomas Wilkins (Shirley), Joe Wilkins and Beulah Wilkins Spencer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23238.
