Jeri Haynes passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her sister, Julie Haynes Rogers, and her father and mother (Dayle and Alfred Haynes). She is survived by her sisters, Vickie Bowers (husband Bob Bowers), Donna Marx (husband Keath Marx), and nephew Eric Rogers (wife Jessica Rogers). She had cousins in Virginia, Florida, and California.
Jeri attended Varina High School, Longwood College, and graduated from Averett College. She retired from Philip Morris, USA in 2011 after 30 years of service.
Jeri was an independent woman who was involved in many activities in the community she lived in Virginia and Florida. She served as Trustee, Head of Deacons, Church Council, and Church Clerk at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. Jeri taught Sunday School class in most of her time at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church.
Jeri and her mom lived in Florida for eight years so that her sister Julie, who had cancer, could live in her Mechanicsville home. Jeri loved her family, many dogs, friends and her bird collection. She played golf in leagues in Virginia/Florida and played softball for 30 years. Her team, the Virginia Belles, won two national championships, and she was the Most Valuable Player in the win in Hutchinson, Kansas (1981). She was inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame.
Our family referred to Jeri as the “Bank of Jeri” since she financially helped her immediate family, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Virginia 23231 where a funeral service will be held Sunday, August 9, at 2 p.m.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 14, at 1 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jeri’s favorite charities, Amazing Animals Inc, St. Cloud, FL and Blue Springs State Park, Volusia, FL.
