Born in West Point, Virginia, John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 before spending many years as an industrial mechanic at the West Point Paper Mill.
John enjoyed classic cars and music, playing guitar, his daily phone calls with his cousin Bucky, and his Labrador retrievers. Above all, he loved his wife, Billie "BJ" Brockman, who preceded him in death along with his parents, John Sr. and Ann. He missed BJ dearly and looked forward to the day they would be reunited.
He is survived by his sister, his children, and their families, who will remember him with love.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home on Laburnum Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond.
