

John Y. Currie, III, 72, of Mechanicsville, passed away on July 18, 2016. After his marriage to Judith H. Currie in 1970, they moved to Nome, Alaska where he taught high school for 20 years and also owned a sporting goods business. John was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Y. Currie, Jr. and Helen N. Currie. John is survived by his wife, Judith H. Currie; daughter, Cynthia Bronwyn Currie of Henrico; aunt, Mollie K. Thurston of Quinton; sister-in-law, Patricia H. Landis of Henrico; and brother-in-law, William B. Hufner, Jr. of Henrico. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. Family and friends are invited to meet at Nelsen Funeral Home on Friday, July 22 at 12 p.m. for a procession to Washington Memorial Park where a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. The family wishes to express their thanks to the excellent doctors, nurses, and support teams at Memorial Regional Medical Center.
