John Robert Landrum

LANDRUM, John Robert “John the Baptist”, passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 74. A fatal head injury closed his eyes on this earth and when he opened them again, he looked into the sweet face of Jesus.

The son of the late Frances and Clarence Landrum, he was also predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joan G. Landrum.

He is survived by his son, David Lee Landrum (Grace); three sisters, Joan C. Campbell (Bill), Gayle L. Lowry (Allan) and Jean L. Grogan; and six nephews.

John was a 1970 graduate of Varina High School, where he lettered in track and basketball. He was a 1972 graduate of United Electronics Institute in Charleston, WV. His working career was with ADT Home Security, installing security alarms throughout Richmond and surrounding counties. He installed an alarm at the Virginia Governor’s Mansion under then Governor Charles Robb. After his retirement, he spent several years with Gold’s Gym. John enjoyed coaching his son and nephews in a recreation basketball league at John Rolfe Middle School. He loved watching the Little League World Series on TV and marveled at the accomplishments of young athletes. John was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church for 70 years where he and Joan sang in the church choir. They kept the infant nursery at the church for many years and they also served the church as Deacons. John wore a religious themed T-shirt every day wherever he went, to proclaim his deep faith and belief in his God.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church on Friday, September 11, 2026. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, 2950 New Market Rd., Henrico, VA 23231.
