

He was preceded by his parents; five older brothers in China; his adoptive father, Philip Montgomery; and his mother, Alice Thayer.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; son, Michael (Jennifer); daughter, Mei-Lei; grandchildren, Nicholas Oanca, Bryan and Kendall Tsou, and Heather Choudhury (Anil), along with her child, Sajel.
John was born in a small village in Guangzhou province, China. As a young teen, he was a radio operator with the resistance army stationed on Quemoy Island. It was here he met his future adoptive father, Philip Montgomery, who brought him to America.
He attended two years of high school at Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT and then completed the five-year Electrical Engineer program at the University of Virginia in 1963.
John began his engineering career at Allied Chemical and finished as co-owner of Hanover Engineers. He was especially proud of attaining Professional Engineer status and completing projects statewide.
After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, travel, and time with family and friends.
