

Joe had a 40 year career at CSX RR. He was a car inspector and wreckmaster. Joe was an avid gardener and best known for his amazing tomatoes.
He was gifted with an ability to build and repair most anything. Joe built his river house, two boats, many bird gazebos and houses, wall clocks, furniture, and much more. He even built an in-ground pool.
Joe loved dogs and enjoyed boating and fishing.
He was a member of the National Guard and a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy J. Winbauer. He is survived by his three children, Jeanette Smith (Pee Wee), Jo Ann Retzloff (Tony), Joseph Winbauer Jr.; four grandchildren, Bobby Smith (Jessica), Kellie Giacchi (Chris), Shelley Williamson, Steven Retzloff (Jennifer); nine great-grandchildren, Kellyn Williamson, Nora Williamson, Sylvia Giacchi, Vera Giacchi, Sydney Smith, Bronson Smith, Drew Retzloff, Lauren Retzloff, Luke Retzloff; and devoted friend, Wesley Hatchell, who was like a son to him.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
