Joyce Atkinson Blackard, 87, of Henrico, was called to her Heavenly Home on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Allen "Bud" Blackard; son, Danny Lynn Snipes; granddaughter, Crystal Snipes; parents, Benjamin Jackson and Elnora Kirby Atkinson; brother, Lewis W. Atkinson.
Joyce retired as a Federal Employee with the Defense General Supply Center. As a hobby, she enjoyed working various types of word search puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Keith Snipes, Sr. (Carolyn) and David Alan Snipes; Elmer's children, Michael and Rick Blackard and Linda Bennett; grandchildren, Benjamin Snipes, Danielle Robertson (Rickey Jr.), Katherine Franklin (Andrew), Anthony Keith Snipes, Jr. (Kaela); great – grandchildren, Tristan Snipes, Aiden Enroughty - Snipes, Grace Robertson and Trenten Franklin; and a large circle of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends 9:45 am until service time at 12:00 pm, Monday, February 3 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Westhampton Memorial Park.
