Joyce Tomlinson Ledford

Joyce Tomlinson Ledford, age 74 of Richmond VA, was called home to be with her heavenly Father, April 30, 2014. She was born in Bastian, Virginia on February 6, 1940 to Elsie Gillenwater and Fred Tomlinson, Sr. Fondly known as J.T. to both family and friends, Joyce was very devoted to her family as wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was also dedicated to her career as an insurance agent, most recently at Floyd Mays Insurance Agency, where she retried and, earlier on, at Ashcraft Insurance agency. She was greatly admired for her strong work ethic. Joyce had a quiet but inquisitive nature; enjoying long talks with her loved ones, embracing knowledge about history, current events, and politics and reading in her spare time. Another favorite pastime was gardening and she took great pride in her work at her home in Varina. She also loved spending time with her grandson, Bobby, who brought a great amount of joy to her life. Joyce (our Daisy) will be greatly missed by all those who were privileged enough to be a part of her life. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Ledford; and her parents, Elsie and Fred Tomlinson. After the passing of her husband Robert, Joyce was especially grateful to her nephew, Eddie Ledford, who was always there for her. She is survived by her daughter, DeAnna; son-in-law, Laurence; and grandson, Robert John Eugene Grosbaum of Belmont MA; six siblings, F.B. Tomlinson (brother), of Kingsport, TN, Doris (sister) and Bill Allen of Aylett, VA, John Tomlinson (brother) of Hampton, VA, Joe (brother) and Sonnie Tomlinson of Castlewood, VA, Sue (sister) and Lee Hughes of Bristol, TN, Janie (sister) and Steve Quiggle of Kingsport, TN; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond VA. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 beginning at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Nelsen Funeral Home.
