Julia Elaine Garber Thornburg

Julia Garber Thornburg of Varina passed away on February 7, 2019 after a brief illness. She was a graduate of Varina High School, attended Longwood College and Smithdeal – Massey Business School. Julie indulged her passion for clothes and fashion by working at Montaldo’s for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, shopping, and decorating. Julie leaves us to join loved ones who will meet her with open arms; her grandparents, Anna and Henry Garber, Maud and Edward Dinwiddie; her parents, Mary Duke and Julian Garber; and her baby, Edward William. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Zeller, Jr., and Al Doss; daughters-in-law, Amy Doss and Jasmin Zeller; sisters, Dana Miller and Christine Welch; and grandchildren, Calvin, Savannah and Sam Doss, David and Julie Zeller; Julie’s sister by choice and forever friend, Jane Lassiter; and her extended family and friends. Julie always saw the best in others and had a caring, giving heart for both people and animals. Special love to her furry children, Grace, Squirrel, Izzy, and Maggie. In lieu of flowers, Julie requested any remembrances be made to the Richmond SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Road, Richmond, Va. 23220. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 2 p.m. There will be a reception to follow at her church, Laurel Hill United Methodist at 1919 New Market Road, 23231.
