Julian Wayne Linkous

Born on September 12, 1947, in Wytheville and later raised in Richmond, he was the son of the late June R. Linkous and Virgil T. Linkous.

Wayne attended John Marshall High School where he played football quarterback. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond in 1969. He married the love of his life, Nancy Atkinson in 1982.

Working for several medical companies, Wayne traveled as a medical salesman in ultrasound equipment throughout the northeast and southeast for over 30 years. He and Nancy traveled extensively, in Europe and Asia, visited all 50 states of the U.S. and many of the Nation’s presidential libraries and homes, national parks and college football stadiums.

Wayne enjoyed playing golf, running in marathons, reading biographies and non-fiction, and watching collegiate sports. While ever a Richmond Spider, Wayne was a zealous Hokie fan, attending many games in Blacksburg and coaching others from his favorite recliner. A man of quick wit who embraced life and loved his family, Wayne will be remembered and missed by many.

In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his two brothers, Dennis Linkous (Marsha) and Ed Linkous (Kay); in-laws: Jim Atkinson (Anne); Sam Atkinson (Dea); Fran Atkinson; Sarah Armistead; nieces and nephews: Steve Linkous (Julia); Tracy Mason (Chad); Travis Linkous (Elizabeth); Kristina Armistead; Meredith Loftheim (Steve); James Atkinson; Mary Atkinson; Amy Atkinson; Lindsey Covey (Justin); goddaughter Carter Demetrio (Alex); and many great nieces, great nephews and one great godson.

The family wishes to thank friends for their love and support, the staffs of Manorhouse, Hanover Adult Center, Seniors Helping Seniors, and Special Angels Judy Stargell and Carol Waddy.

A celebration of life will be held at 11am, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Giles, 5200 Grove Avenue, Richmond.
