Obituary of Kevin Wayne "Coach" Farkas
On August 12, 2024, Kevin Wayne “Coach” Farkas, 53, lost his courageous battle with Stage IV Renal Cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother Sue and his beloved dog Sarge. Kevin realized he had a love for football when he began playing Pee Wee football at age 8, he went on to play football at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, playing for Liberty and Appalachian State University’s. He played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and went on to play for the Amsterdam Admirals and New Orleans Saints and was one of the first 10 players to sign for the Carolina Panthers. He eventually found his passion as a teacher and coach and spent over 20 years teaching Wood Shop (he was a talented woodworker), Robotics and Physical Education and coaching primarily the offensive line at various schools in Central Florida. His coaching accolades included being a staff member of several “Coach of the Year” teams, multiple District Championships, and Regional and State playoff and championship appearances. Additionally, he had the honor and privilege of coaching numerous players who would go on to play in the NFL. When his health prevented him from keeping up with the demands of coaching football, he found a home at Wekiva High School as an assistant baseball coach, helping to build a program that would amass the best overall record and only perfect home record in Wekiva Baseball history. Kevin always felt that coaching and teaching was his one true love in life and the only thing he was really good at. He lived his life with no regrets. He will be remembered for mentoring, inspiring, and changing thousands of young lives; motivating kids to be their best with the perfect blend of toughness and love when he taught and coached. He never demanded his students and players respect; he earned it. He loved to share his 5 pillars of success: Be present; Be on time; Be prepared; Be respectful; Try! His impact and legacy will live on for many years to come. Left to cherish his memory are his puppy, Gronk (whom he cherished and brought him great comfort); father, Paul; brother, Vince (Cyndi); sister, Lynn (Patrick); numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends, Billy and Kathy; as well as a host of other friends, colleagues and former students who will miss him dearly. A celebration of life will be held in the Fall in Eustis, FL.
