Retired Richmond Police Department Detective Lloyd Earl Redford, 78 of Varina, passed away peacefully at his Henrico County home on Monday, October 13, 2025.
He was the son of the late Raymond E. and Mary Wright Redford of Henrico. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Walton Redford of 53 years and his granddaughter, Lillian Dodge Maynard and his sister-in-law, Debbie Isley (Arthur) and niece, Ashley Payne.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jason Lloyd Redford, his brother, Raymond Calvin Redford and his sister, June Redford Palmer.
Lloyd served as an MP in the Army for 4 years, which included a year in Vietnam. He graduated from the police academy in December 1980 as part of the 43rd Basic Recruit Class. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned numerous awards, including Rookie of the year and the Medal of Valor. He retired as a Homicide Detective in 2005.
He loved playing baseball on Sunday afternoons with the Tri County league back in the day. Hunting and fishing were his passions. He cherished the times that he could take Lilly hunting with him. From turkey season to deer season, he truly enjoyed being with his family, his granddaughter, and the guys at the hunt club.
The viewing will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with a viewing at 1:00 p.m., prior to the Funeral services at 2:00 p.m., both at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. Henrico, VA. Services will conclude graveside at Washington Memorial Park.
Reception to follow at Pioneer Baptist Church.
Donations may be sent to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America or Pioneer Baptist Church, in lieu flowers.
