He served during the Korean War in the U. S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service as a Tech Sgt. and was also a retired employee with the U. S. Postal Service. He was a member of Sandston Baptist Church, the Ruritan Club (Governor) and the Masons and enjoyed bee keeping and electric cars in the 1970’s.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Gardner and Anthony Gardner.
He is survived by his children, Marvin Gardner, Jr., Debbie Gerace, Sandi Barrett, Susan Jancarek and Patti Price; grandchildren, Lance, Christopher, Johnathan, Tony, Bobby, Nakia, Chrissy, Justin. Joshua, Raj, Amber and Bryce.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where services will be held Saturday, July 10, at 12 noon.
Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
