Mary Lee Kelley, aged 78, died peacefully on September 22 at home with family at her side. Mary was born May 7, in Woods Cross Road, Virginia, the daughter of Rufus G. Crump and Mabel Coates Kanary. In 1955, Mary met Ernest ‘Pete’ Kelley while both were working at the Virginia State Highway Department in Richmond, Virginia. It was not long after, the two fell and love and were married in 1956. Soon after, the Kelley family started to grow as Mary and Pete raised their three boys: David, Jeffrey and Paul. Not long after Paul’s arrival, the family’s adventure continued when they made the big move with the railroad and relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. It was in Jacksonville where Mary found her new home, countless friends and picked up her love of the beach. Mary loved the beach, especially her walks from Jacksonville Beach to Ponte Vedra Beach. Mary is survived by her husband, Pete; sons, David (Peggy) of Fleming Island, FL, Jeffrey (Annette) of San Jose, CA and Paul (MaryAnn) of Tallahassee, FL; six of her favorite grandchildren, brother Alvin (Pat) of Richmond, VA and many other relatives and close friends. While Mary’s passing this week leaves a deep void in our hearts, she leaves us with so many special memories of the wonderful person we will always remember her as. There will be a viewing at the Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm and Chapel Funeral Service at 12:00 pm, Monday September 29, 2014, Online condolences may be made at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
