

Shedrack Flavious Brown, 90, of Henrico, surrounded in love by his family, departed this life on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was born to the late Shedrack and Martha Brown on January 31, 1934, in Brandon Point, VA. He is predeceased by the love of his life, Dixie Lee Brown, with whom he shared 67 beautiful years of marriage.
Shedrack gave his life to Christ at an early age. Education was very important to him, especially Theology and he took many classes and courses throughout his life, leading to becoming an assistant pastor for both the Evangelism Explosion and Ambassadors for Christ Church. He loved spreading the word of God.
Shedrack served his country for over 30 years, enlisting in the Army from 1951-1953 and reenlisting in 1956. He accumulated multiple honors before retiring as Command Sgt. Major in 1980. After the military, he worked at Travelers Insurance company until he started his business – 911 Mailing Service, Inc. in 1988. After making the decision to fully retire, he closed the business in 2015.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Carroll Anthony Brown; parents, Shedrack and Martha Brown; four brothers, Walter “D-boy”, Edward “Junior”, Carl and Clyde; five sisters, Vivian, Elaine, Helen, Shirley and Enith “Faye”.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Wyoma “Bitsie” Staten, Joyce Ann Mason and Eddie Lee “Bubba” Brown (LaRea); brother, Larry Brown; sister, Pamela Jones; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Brown-Foreman. Six grandchildren, Tanya (granddaughter#1), Michelle (granddaughter #2), Kristin (granddaughter #3), Gordon “Gordy” (grandson #1), Antonia “Toni” (granddaughter #4) and Andrea (granddaughter #5).
Six Great-grandchildren, Pierre, Aleynde, Akyanna, Elijah, Jessa and Kinlee; three Great-great grandchildren, Pierre Jr., Deonte and Jamaine; devoted nieces and nephews Phyllis Brown, Sonja Goss, Chana Montgomery, Hassan Thompson, Carl L. Brown II, Cory Brown, and Larry Brown, Jr. and a multitude of caring relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where a funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 11 a.m. Interment will full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.
