Shirley Mae Tibbs

TIBBS, Mrs. Shirley Mae Lawrence, 89, of Sandston, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015. She was born August 10, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Reo Tibbs; parents, Virginia Burns Morris and Allen Monroe Lawrence Sr.; sister, Phyllis Jessup Moody; and brother, Edward Page Lawrence Sr. She is survived by a brother, Allen Monroe Lawrence Jr. of Guilford, Conn.; two daughters, Patricia Woods (Louis) and Sandra Blake (Kenny); son, Johnny Tibbs; six grandchildren, Kenny (Deanna), Michael, Susan, Johnny (Sherry), Melissa and Terry (Laura); and 10 great-grandchildren, Kali, Rachel, Matthew, Sarah, Laura, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Chase, Chance and Kacy. Shirley loved her "Lunch Bunch" friends, looked forward to pot luck lunches, our "whole family" Christmas celebrations and family reunions. She looked forward to hearing about Saturday night racing, grandchildren and neighbors. Mama loved working puzzles and "search-a-word" books. She was definitely not a fan of cooking. She also hated cold weather and snow, believed in telling the truth and had no trouble telling you what she thought. We will miss her. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 18 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with funeral services to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 19. Interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery. According to MeeMaw's wishes, if you attend her funeral, please dress casually. You know how she hated to dress up.
