

She was preceded in death by her father, Loomis Phelps; mother, Francis White; first husband, Alfred Scalabrin; and stepsister, Elizabeth Phelps.
Shirley worked as a loving homemaker and physician’s office assistant. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Highland Springs. She loved the Chesapeake Bay and enjoyed fishing, cooking, dancing, singing and playing cards. Shirley met Alfred Scalabrin when she was 19 years old. They married in 1956 and shared a happy 34 years and in raising their four children. Alfred passed in 1990. She later found love and happiness with Randolph Wetzler and shared in 25 years of happy marriage. Shirley lived a life of love for family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Randolph Wetzler; children, Terry Porter, Alfred Scalabrin Jr., David Scalabrin and Kevin Scalabrin (Jenny); grandchildren, Brad Porter, Isaac Scalabrin and Trenton Scalabrin; siblings, Mitzi Sexton and Bobby Phelps; and stepbrother, Charlie Phelps.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. Masks are respectfully required.
The family especially thanks those who have been there for Shirley and for each of us during this time of loss.
