

Simeon J. Phipps, Jr., 89, a resident of six years at the Masonic Home of Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Memorial Regional Medical Center. Sim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Virginia; two nieces, Jean Phillips and Dorothy Titus and a nephew, Robert Ashley of Edenton, NC. He was the son of the late Nannie and Simeon J. Phipps, Sr. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Spruill and Virginia Ashley and brother, Howard Phipps. Sim was a native of Edenton, NC. He retired in 1986 from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Planner and Estimator with 22 years of service as a civil service employee. Sim was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member and Past Master of Seaboard Lodge No. 56 A.F. & A.M., Past Patron of Miriam Chapter No. 94 O.E.S., Past Patron of Kempsville Chapter No. 173, O.E.S. and Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Virginia, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Navy veteran of WW II. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at the Masonic Home of Virginia, 500 Masonic Lane, Henrico, VA with Dr. Stephen Starzer officiating. Masonic Rites will be accorded at the Memorial Service. A private burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, P. O.
