Steve moved with his family from Church Hill to the wonderful historical community of Varina in 1958. A 1966 Varina High School graduate, he was Group AAA Capital District track champion in the quarter- and half-mile events, while also playing the lead in the school’s senior class play. From there, it was on to the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business where he graduated in 1970 and was a faithful member of Phi Gamma Delta.
Steve had an extensive career in financial services, working with national brokerages in Richmond, Atlanta, and New York, before founding Senior Consultant where he published an influential newsletter devoted to influencing the industry’s movement toward fiduciary investment management in the 1990’s and 2000’s.
He returned to his childhood home in Varina in the 1990’s to raise his two children and served as a deacon at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church and two-time chair of the Varina Lions Club.
In March of 2020, he was blessed to wed his former Varina classmate Betty Hall Mann, who has been a truly wonderful loving partner and caregiver in his life.
Steve’s survivors include his beloved Betty; his son Forrest, wife Amanda and three beloved grandchildren, Reagan, Kennedy, and Joseph; and daughter Emily and husband Pat Berish; as well as brothers Ed, Jr. (Mary Ellen) and Tim (Marita); and Betty’s children, Christopher, Jason, Aaron (Tamara), and April DiGirolamo, plus beloved grandchildren Samuel Mann and Travis and Chloe DiGirolamo.
Two events are planned, first a visitation in Nelsen Funeral Home’s Chickahominy Room, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue in Henrico from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday April 29, and the second at Victory Tabernacle Church of God at 11700 Genito Road in Midlothian, with food and refreshments, on Thursday April 30 from 4 to 7 pm.
Please join us at either and consider gifts to Varina Lions Club or Victory Tabernacle in Steve’s loving memory.
