It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Stephenne Alethea Glassco. Stephenne passed unexpectedly in her home on September 18, 2023. Stephenne was born December 27, 1967, in Richmond, Virginia.
Stephenne was a very special soul who faced many challenges throughout her life and defied many odds. Stephenne attended public schools in Eugene, Oregon and Richmond, Virginia. She is a graduate of John-Randolph High School. After high school, Stephenne attended Hermitage Enterprises for 26 years where she helped those in her community by participating in activities such as Meals on Wheels. With the support of Faerin Collins, one of her caregivers and lifelong friend, she built many relationships within her community. Stephenne used to bake cookies for residents at a local nursing home. She would deliver them to her, “Cookie Friends,” weekly and made a lasting impact on the residents and staff. Stephenne also loved wearing her clown costume to various events where she would make people laugh and smile. Though Stephenne faced many obstacles of her own, she brought joy and happiness to those that she met.
When Stephenne was active, she enjoyed bowling, playing basketball, riding her three-wheeled bike, roller skating, playing in the snow, fishing (even if for only 10 minutes), going to the park, and dancing. Just a week ago she was swimming at the YMCA, something she absolutely loved. Stephenne was always excited about Christmas and birthdays, even if they were not her own. She was a party girl and looked forward to dressing up as a witch at Halloween.
Stephenne loved to sing and she enjoyed playing her harmonica. A few of her favorite songs included: Happy Birthday, M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E Mickey Mouse and Jesus Loves Me. Some of her favorite television shows were Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, The Price is Right, and The Andy Griffith Show. Recently you could hear her saying “Come on down!” during an old episode of the Price is Right with Bob Barker. Another one of her favorite local talents was Jonathan Austin, the juggler. Some of her favorite foods were popcorn, M&M’s and pizza. If you knew Stephenne, you also know that she loved chewing gum.
Stephenne was an incredibly loving and kind person. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She made many friends throughout her life and never really knew a stranger. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her throughout her life. A special thank you to the staff at Rivershealth residential and day support services who worked to provide her a happy and comfortable life.
We will deeply miss Stephenne who enriched and made our lives better with her presence. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Laurel Hope and Andy Corbett, sister Mackenzie Tyler Glassco (Chris Ostergren) and loving niece, Ainsley Ostergren. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wilson Glassco.
