He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas C. Miller Sr. and Marie Shipley Miller; and his sister, Jane Jacobs.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Glenda L. Miller. He leaves behind his children: Mark Duran (Donna), Cheri Oliveri (John), John Vanderhider, Holly Washington (Marc), Stacy Birlin (Steve), and Thomas Miller III. He was a proud grandfather to Lauren Oliveri, Anthony Oliveri (Zoe), Brooke Oliveri, Kenneth Birlin, Kaitlin Birlin, Connor Oliveri, Kaitlyn Oliveri, and Landon Oliveri, and a cherished great-grandfather to Olivia and Aiden. Thomas is also survived by his sisters, Linda Roberts (Brian) and Pam Hugo (Dale), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family extends their gratitude to caregivers Kathy, Michelle, and Heather, and to the doctors and staff at Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Thomas served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Korea. He retired from a career in security at the Commonwealth Club.
He had a passion for dogs, enjoyed gambling at Rosie's, and cherished spending time with his family. Thomas loved being outdoors with a cold beer, a cigarette, and his sweet tea. He found joy in yard work and riding on his lawnmower. Known for his most obnoxious yawn and a sharp laugh that could be heard a mile away, Thomas didn't put up with any nonsense and expected tasks to be done right the first time.
Thomas was one of the toughest and strongest people, and he remained stubborn to the very end.
Service details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
