

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite “Rita” Throckmorton; son, Thurman “B.J.” Throckmorton, Jr. (Heather); granddaughter, Amelia Gail; sister, Patricia Robinson; and many cherished extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alice Seay and Peggy Link; and dear daughter, Angela “Angie” Terrell.
After attending Highland Springs High School, Bubba joined the United States Army and served as an Army Medic in Stuttgart, Germany, during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home, he owned a hauling business with several trucks and later founded Throckmorton Painting Contractors in 1987. A Class A contractor, he began in residential painting before transitioning to the commercial painting industry. Bubba was a lifelong member of the Sandston Moose Lodge.
Following his retirement, Bubba and Rita, to whom he was married for 56 years, spent much of their time on the Great Wicomico River, where they owned a home and enjoyed days on the water in Bubba’s most prized possession, The Southern Comfort. In recent years, he also spent time helping his son with his business and enjoying life. Those who knew him will remember his ever-present smile.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23231, with interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
