He had a lifelong passion for farming. He and his wife owned and operated Gallmeyer Farms The Pumpkin Patch and The Berry Patch, and he was still farming in his last years. He served in the U. S. Army and loved all animals large and small, especially golden retrievers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn C. Gallmeyer; son, Louis A Gallmeyer II, granddaughter, Jessica Gallmeyer; and sisters, Ellen and Emma.
He is survived by his son, Stephen W. Gallmeyer (Nancy); daughter, Lori E. Hoover; grandchildren, Stephen W. Gallmeyer, Jr., Clint R. Hoover, Candice Gallmeyer, Zachary Gallmeyer, Patrick Gallmeyer and Louis Gallmeyer; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Annabelle Hoover and Josephine Lorraine Gallmeyer; cousin, Wilmer Gallmeyer (Cathy).
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where a funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
