She is survived by her son, Stephen Edelen and his wife, Susan Edelen; her daughter, Lisa (Edelen) Zandi and her husband, Matthew Zandi; her brother, Delmo Chapdelaine and his wife, Darlene Chapdelaine; three grandchildren, Donald Edelen, Matthew Zandi Jr. and Maria Zandi; four great-grandchildren, Lilly Edelen, Paige Edelen, Maddie Edelen and Arlo McMillian. Also, many dear and life-long friends.
Born December 9, 1929 to Delmo and Abbie Chapdelaine, Barbara lived in Pontiac and attended St. Fred’s Catholic School. Following school, she worked in several jobs, eventually working in the Friend of the Court in Oakland County. She married Jackson in February 1959. They spent their first years living in Utica before moving to Rochester to raise their children. She taught ceramic classes, was an avid oil painter, and loved making crafts with her crafty lady friends. She volunteered many years for the Older Person’s Commission (OPC) and was involved in the Meals on Wheels Birthday Bag program.
Funeral mass will be at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Avenue, Rochester, on April 29; visitation at 10:30, mass at 11:00.
Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Compassus Hospice (envelopes will be available) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
