Dale Lynn Austin, son of Clifford and Ruth, and brother of Dennis (Judy), David (Linda), and Doris (Pete). A proud Navy veteran, he passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on February 20, 2026 in his hometown of Rochester Hills. Born on May 9, 1940 in Royal Oak, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18, serving around the world and traveling across North America. Throughout his travels, Dale developed a hobby for collecting an impressive collection of currencies and stamps from the many places he visited. His love for the world was reflected in his collections, each piece telling a story of his adventures.
After leaving the Navy, Dale returned home to Rochester Hills, where he embraced the simpler pleasures of life. He worked for General Motors and retired from them after 30+ years. He found joy in the quiet rhythm of the seasons, whether it was watching his beloved Detroit Tigers baseball games, passing out Halloween candy, spending hours hunting and fishing in the woods and lakes, or just enjoying a peaceful day at home.
A man of few words, Dale’s life was defined by his strong values, a love for the outdoors, and a deep appreciation for the small, meaningful moments.
Rest in peace, Dale. Your travels may have taken you far, but your heart was always at home.
Dale leaves behind a legacy of adventure, simplicity, and quiet strength. He is survived by Darrell (Cindy) and and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester. Burial will be held at Greenwood Township Cemetery, Manton in the spring.
