Don was born the son of William and Gladys Susewitt in Hazel Park, Michigan on July 25, 1935. He served in the military for two years before beginning his painting career. Don married Jean Albrecht on May 24, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, Michigan. Don and Jean raised their family in Rochester. Don was a well-respected painting contractor beginning at age 20, owning his own business for years. Don loved every day of his job and was known as “Don the Painter” by everyone he knew. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church before moving to Rochester and joining St. John Lutheran Church. He was a past usher and head of the trustees.
Don loved his family and enjoyed lots of friends. Jigsaw puzzles were Don’s favorite pastime, and his finished puzzles decorated the walls of his barn and garage. For many years, Don enjoyed tending his large garden and caring for the yard.
