Doris Lenore Schwing Griffis, age 90 of Rochester Hills passed away on Wednesday August 6, 2014. Doris was a 1 Lt. Army Nurse; she served during WWII in European Theater. Memorial experiences: Le Havre, France down to Aix and Marseilles, France (227th General hospital) up to Nuremberg, Germany to the 116th general hospital, later the 385th Station Hospital. Attended war crimes trials in 1946. Doris also volunteered at the Rochester Hills Public Library, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and at the Older Persons Commisions of Rochester. Loving wife of the late Robert. Dear mother of Carl (Etta), Edward, Robert (Barbara), Thomas (Mimi), and Patricia. She is also survived by six grandchildren, and her beloved cat Kacey. Visitation will be held on Monday August 11 2014 from 11am until the time of service at 1pm, at Pixley Funeral Home 322 W. University Dr. Rochester MI 48307.
