Doug was born the son of Arthur and Reva (Kottke) Anderson in Eagle Bend, Minnesota on December 27, 1932. He graduated from Parkers Prairie High School, class of 1950, and served his country stateside in the Army during the Korean War. Doug married Janet Tomsich on March 10, 1956 in Chesterton, Indiana. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from Valparaiso University in 1961. Doug and Janet raised their three adopted children in Warsaw, Indiana. Doug worked for 27 years for NIPSCO before retiring to Micco, Florida.
Doug and Janet loved to travel the country in their RV with their dog, Samantha. Doug served as the vice-president of the Southeastern U.S. Motorcoach Association and was a lifelong member of the Lions Club.
Doug is survived by his brother, David, son David (Heidi) Anderson; grandchildren Jacob Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson, Adam Garcia and Pasquale Garcia; niece Teri; and nephews Randy and Derek. He is predeceased by his wife Janet Anderson; daughter Julie Garcia; son Thomas Anderson; and his parents.
The family welcomes everyone to a memorial gathering for Doug and Janet on Friday November 12, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan.
