

Ellen Ruth Hohnstadt (née Krause) of Rochester Hills, MI, faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was welcomed into His loving arms by the grace of God on April 14, 2020, at the age of 84, after a long, brave battle with Alzheimer’s.
Ellen was born to Rev. Edward A. and Virginia Krause in Jackson, TN, on May 14, 1935, the oldest of six daughters. She became a Child of God at her baptism on June 2, 1935. She was confirmed April 10, 1949, at Bethlehem Lutheran and attended Lutheran High School in St. Louis. After receiving her teaching certificate from St. John’s College in Winfield, KS, she served as Lutheran School Teacher in Knoxville, TN, and Pine Bluff, AR, until 1958 when she married Howard A. Hohnstadt and moved to Milwaukee, WI. Strong in her own Christian faith, she raised their four children to know the love of Jesus. In 1972 the family moved to Shelby Twp, MI, where Ellen began the PreSchool program at Peace Lutheran Church, spending the next 15 years sharing her incredible love of Jesus with many young children and their families, also volunteering as an AAL officer and with the Lutheran High School Association of Metro Detroit. After retiring, she worked in the office at St. John Lutheran Church, Rochester, MI, and served as Stephen Ministry leader. Her love for Jesus, devotion to family, and dedication to serving others was evident to all who knew her.
Ellen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard, and her precious great-grandson, Owen. She was the dear mother and (mother-in-law) of William Edward (Charlene) and Daniel Albert (Shari) of Shelby Twp, MI, Rebecca Sue of Adrian, MI, and Frederick Paul (Mary) of Clarkston, MI. She was beloved Oma to her 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Mount Avon Cemetery in Rochester, MI, with a Memorial Service to be scheduled at a later time. Memorials may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, 1011 W.
