OBITUARY

Gary Michael O'Rourke

Gary M. O’Rourke, 75 years old, a long term citizen of Rochester, passed away in Rochester on April 6. Gary was born in Pontiac on February 23, 1946 to Lloyd O’Rourke and Irene Marshall O’Rourke. He grew up in Sylvan Lake, graduated from the old St. Michael’s High School in Pontiac in 1963, and then served two years in the US Army in Vicenza, Italy. Gary retired as a Master Pipefitter from General Motors after more than 40 years of service.

Gary was a fun-loving extrovert who usually had a joke or a pun ready for his family and friends, loved dogs, automotive memorabilia, coin collecting, history and nature, and was always ready to travel. He was passionate about the history of Route 66 and had traveled its length several times, once with his beloved daughter, Abigail. Gary also had extensive military history knowledge and could have taught a course on World War I European battlefields.

Gary is survived by his loving daughter, Abigail Tull; Jeff Tull, his son in law; and his three beloved granddaughters: Cassandra, Samantha and Charlotte of Clarkston. He is also survived by his sisters, Shelagh O’Rourke of Merida, Mexico and Diane O. Bennett of Rochester, his nieces, Rachel Vincent of Ottawa and Kate Abraham of Atlanta, and his nephews, Matthew Vincent of Luxembourg and John Bennett of Rochester. Gary is also mourned by two grandnieces and three grandnephews and members of the extended Marshall family.

Gary will be buried with a ceremony at the Mount Avon Cemetery at 1 o’clock on Monday, April 19. In lieu of flowers, friends who would like to memorialize Gary are asked to do so through donations to the Michigan Animal Rescue League.
