George miss you. You were a dear friend and I enjoyed your jokes. RIP

Dear Barbara:
Please accept my condolences on the death of George.   I have been volunteering at OPC since they were in the school building in the early 2000's.   George always had a kind word for everyone and always had that nice smile on his face.   At the end of the  meetings he would stop by and thank me for speaking.   He was a real gentleman and I will really miss him.

I just learned of George' s death by reading a Letter to the Editor of the Bennington Banner from George's friend Bill Rice.   My family and the Randalls were farming neighbors through the years.  George, two other boys and I were the only first grade students at the Sunderland Borough one room school.  He and I were two of a group of youth from the Federated Church in East Arlington who took a trip to Connecticut or Massachusetts to visit a youth group there.  I extend my sympathies to his family.  Mrs, Marlyn Dunlap Couture, Sunderland, Vermont.

I will always treasure George's Friendship for over 35 years he was there for me with advice, and physical presence when needed. He and I would work together on Building projects when it was pertaining to the Heating system at First Congregational Church.  
He always had a keen smile and a load of wit. He was a true christian when it came to caring for his Church and the people in it. He will be missed by myself along with several others. GOD SPEED MY FRIEND!  Keith Hartley, Custodian FCC ROCHESTER

I first met Mr. Randall (I could never call him George even when I became an adult) when I became Carol’s friend in Junior High School. I spent many weekends in the Randall home and loved being  with their family. Mr. Randall always liked a good conversation and disliked open toed shoes (the strange things you remember). I am sure Carol and I drove him crazy with our teenage antics! He always wanted detailed plans of where we were going and who we were going with. I knew his concern came from a place of love for not just Carol but for me too!

I will never forget all the Ford vehicles, Trixie, being introduced to pastrami, the trip to Vermont, and getting in trouble for fighting with Steve (Steve started it).

We are grateful and blessed to have known both of you through these many decades, starting when George and I were just out of high school and I would occasionally stay overnight at the Randall farm. I learned much later in life that his grandfather had started a special breed of cows on that small farm in Sunderland, VT, the “Randall Lineback,” now the Vermont state cow. 
After high school, neither of us had money for college, so we became GE apprentices and shared an apartment in Pittsfield, Mass.  After saving some money, we decided to go to college and become engineers.  He went to the University of Vermont and I went to UMass.  In about 1960 I went up to the UVM campus for a special Kake Walk weekend (when they still had Kake Walk) where George was one of the high stepping Kake Walkers.   
We both graduated and went on to our engineering careers, but we still kept in touch and in 1963 he became the best man at Nan and my wedding in Arlington and  two days later I became the best man at his and Barb’s wedding in Burlington.
Growing up on the farm helped George become a great hands-on mechanic, and he did a complete engine job on my 1951 Studebaker when we were both apprentices. After college, while in Detroit, he rebuilt the engine and refabricated a 1946 Taylorcraft airplane that he lovingly called “Patches”.  One summer George and I flew Patches from Detroit to Morrisville, Vermont and back.  What I remember most about Patches is that one had to prop the engine (spin the propeller) to get it started and that the ingenious gas gauge was a floating cork with a wire that stuck up through a hole in the gas cap. A long wire meant that the tank was full.
It is with deep sadness that we can no longer get together and talk about the wonderful old times, but George you have left us with many fond memories that we will never forget.  One could not ask for a better friend.

I do not remember a day in my life where the the Randall’s were not present. So many good, family memories were made better from their presence!
George was always up for a good debate. He challenged me, and I love a challenge! George, you made me laugh, made me think, and made me a better human! 
You also provided my husband and I with one of our favorite quotes ( hearing you in the mornings when we were all camping up north)  “Woof woof, little dog”. 
My love is  with Barb, Carol and Steve- today, and always!
