Mrs. Alkema, 84, passed away December 8, 2011 at her residence surrounded by family. She was born in Tacoma, Washington on October 23, 1927, as an only child to Louis and Blanche (Neff) Babick. She was a graduate of Edmore High School where she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Robert, whom she married on October 4, 1947.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert A., and is survived by her daughter Susan A. Taylor (Lazi Senn), son, R. Scott Alkema (Dena Ellis) and 2 grandchildren, R. Justin Alkema and Ashley Taylor-Senn.
Helen traveled the world with her husband, with England being her favorite destination. Her hobbies included gardening, decorating, making floral arrangements, reading and playing bridge. She loved dogs and dogs were constant companions to Bob and Helen. She was an avid Michigan State University and Detroit Tiger fan. She will be missed for her beautiful smile and sense of humor.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University, Rochester, MI from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
A special Thank You to Tami, Jody and Dinah as well as the employees of Sparrow Hospice who provided care and comfort to Helen and her family.
