

James L. Carlisle, age 86, of Rochester Hills, died October 18, 2010. An U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart, he was a Design Engineer with General Motors – Chevrolet Division and was very involved with designing the Corvette. He retired in 1981 after 27 years of service to General Motors. A member of the SAE and the CERC, he served on the Harper Woods City Council for many years and was past mayor pro tem. He was also actively involved with the Avon Players for many years and was a former president of the organization. Beloved husband of Nancy Dewey Carlisle, whom he married on June 25, 1949. Dear father of Susan (Greg) Anderson of West Hills, CA, Jean (Rob) Russell of North Fork, CA, James (Denise) Carlisle, Jr. of Oxford and Paul (Alina) Carlisle of Walled Lake. He is also survived by his six loving grandchildren and his brother, William (Mary Ann) Carlisle. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday , October 22, 2010, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. A Gathering celebrating his life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on that same day at the Rochester Community House, 816 Ludlow St. in Rochester 48307.
