

James Joseph Mulligan II, 91, of Rochester, Michigan, passed away on Dec. 16 at his home surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley; his sister Virginia; his children, James, Sheryl, Michael (Julie) and Ronald (Martina); and his grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Matthew and Marc. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva; and his siblings Barbara, William, Charles and Robert.
James joined the U.S. Army 103rd Infantry Cactus Division during WWII at age 18 and faced combat in France and Germany. Following the war, he worked as a metal model maker for 32.5 years at General Motors. His commitment to the military continued in civilian life: He served as Commander of the Purple Heart Delta Chapter 35, Past Commander of American Legion Post 172, and as a member of the VFW and DAV.
The Mulligans will receive family and friends at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester on Thursday, Dec. 22 from 3-8 pm and Friday, Dec. 23 at 10 am, prior to the 11 am funeral service. James will be interred with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 10 am. The family requests donations to the Michigan American Legion Patriot Fund Endowment and The Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.
